What a game between Fairways and AppNet on Monday night!! A low scoring, defensive affair saw Fairways, down 3 in the 7th score 4 runs to take the lead. AppNet came back to tie the game and then after 1 scoreless inning, AppNet was able to pull out the win in the bottom of the 9th, when Lisa Calhoon singled home Jon Rising to win the game. The game was knotted at 3 a-piece after 3 innings, when AppNet was able to score 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th to take an 8-3 lead. Fairways came right back scoring 2 runs, while AppNet fought back with 1 run in the 5th. Fairways and AppNet did the same in the 6th to make the score 10-7, heading into the 7th inning. Eric Johnson hit a long Ground Rule Home Run (his 2nd of the game) to leadoff the inning and later Jason Daugherty laced a 2-run single up the middle to give Fairways the 1 run lead. But, AppNet pegged back a run to tie the game in the 7th, as MJ Esposito hit a hard grounder that was unable to be snared allowing Sean Brennan to score the tying run. In the botttom of the 9th, Mark Zolty lead off with a single, followed by a Mike Monteleone single to give AppNet 1st and 2nd with no outs. Brennan hit a long fly-ball and Jon Rising (running for Zolty) was able to scamper to 3rd on a mis-placed throw. Lisa Calhoon stepped to the plate and hit a hard grounder up the middle that the Fairways 2nd-baseman, Steve Kollias, made a great diving stop, and attempt to throw home, but Rising was in safe for the win.
Jay Dougherty (3-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 2 Doubles) and Jon Rising (2-for-3, 1 run, 2 RBI, 1 Double) paced the offense while Kevin Wood, and Brennan roamed the OF locking down the defense, L. Calhoon picked up the win on the mound spreading 18 hits over the 9 innings.
