| 8th Annual Danny Curran Memorial Coed Tourney |  | | In October 2001, Danny and his brother Cavan left on a cross-country adventure to explore the USA. Danny went hiking on Broken Top Mountain in Oregon and never returned. Hikers discovered Danny’s remains on July 26, 2002. | | The 8th Annual Danny Curran Memorial Coed Tournament will be on Saturday, October 2nd at Camp Upland fields. The rain date is Saturday, October 9th. This will be an ASA sanctioned event. Teams must be split down middle...6 guys and 6 girls in lineup, or 5 guys and 5 girls, or 6 girls and 5 guys..10 in field split with girl and guy pitching and catching, 2 girls in infield and 2 girls in outfield. 11" and 12" balls will be used. There WILL be bat restrictions for the men but women can use ANY current ASA approved bat. There will be a competitive and a recreational division..double elimination will be used in both classes this year.
Fees will be $200 per team. There will be t-shirts, food & soft drinks sold at the fields and a get together afterwards at a soon to be determined establishment. There will also be a raffle tickets sold for some nice items at the field.
Every year, this is a great, fun event and for a great cause. Proceeds go to the Danny Curran Scholarship Fund at both Springfield High and Widener University. Danny is ASA of PA Hall of Famer Mare Curran’s son; we lost Danny about 8 years ago, but his spirit lives on in this tourney and these scholarships.
