| 2010 Western Division Playoff Preview | | | | The Western Division playoffs are set to begin with two best-of-three semifinal series starting on Sunday, July 11th. The regular season champion Kicking Puppies (13-1) face the upstart APSCUF Rams (8-6) in one series while second year Flounders’ Pub (10-4) match up against returning Downingtown Middle School (8-6) in the other series.
The Kicking Puppies raced through the Western Division in their first year in the league, winning by an average of 11.7 runs per game. Interestingly, their only loss of the season came in Week 5 against the APSCUF Rams 14-12. James Frankland leads the Puppies, going an impressive 36-for-40 during the regular season with 29 runs and 37 RBIs. The APSCUF Rams fought off a slow start and a midseason slide to win their last three games to clinch a playoff berth. Watch out for Jim Morris, who leads the Rams in eight offensive categories.
Flounders’ Pub raced out to eight straight wins and finished the season 10-4, their only losses coming to fellow playoff teams. Brendan Flounders led Flouders by going 21-for-28 with 17 runs and 24 RBIs during the season. Downingtown Middle School had an eight year hiatus since their last appearance in the league and parlayed it into a playoff appearance. Downingtown MS started slow, going 1-4 before winning seven of their last nine games to secure a playoff spot. Kris James leads Downingtown, going 25-for-34 on the season with 12 runs and 25 RBIs. The teams split their regular season games with Flounders winning 16-13 and Downingtown winning 12-11.
