| 2010 Eastern Division Playoff Preview | | | | In what became the most competitive division in the league this season, the Eastern Division playoffs are set to begin with two best-of-three semifinal series starting on Sunday, July 18th. Division champion Duffer’s Tavern South (10-4) faces a familiar foe in Side Bar (9-5) in the first series while last year’s surprise Synthes (10-4) take on Bull Durham’s/A&E (10-4) in the other semifinal series.
Duffer’s Tavern South gained the top spot by winning a three team tiebreaker over Synthes and Bull Durham’s/A&E. In 2008, several players from both teams played together and made the playoffs as Barnaby’s/DJ Realty. The team split into two teams in 2009 which created an instant rivalry and they split their season series in 2010. Duffer’s started the season off slowly, losing 4 of their first 7 before a seven game winning streak catapulted them to the top of the standings. Rob Harrison, Dan Hosier, Dan James and Mike Verbos lead the offense and defense for Duffer’s into the playoffs. Side Bar is led by George Torres (38-for-47, 33 runs, 10 doubles) and Meg Bauer (22-for-48, 12 runs, 12 RBIs, 7 doubles). All signs point to a tough three game series.
Synthes parlayed their 2009 success into a nice 2010 campaign, winning their last five games to tie for the division lead in wins. Bull Durham’s/A&E also finished with 10 wins and showed themselves to be streaky during the year, with winning streaks of four, two and three games. The teams split in 2010, both teams losing as the home team. Synthes is led by Kevin Snyder (32-for-38, 21 runs, 12 doubles), who leads the league in average and Brian Kucharik (25-for-32, 25 runs, 10 doubles). Bull Durham’s/A&E is led by Josh Stewart (24-for-30, 23 runs, 28 RBIS, 8 homers) and Kim Bassett (13-for-27, 9 runs, 5 RBIs). Offense will not play second fiddle in this series, as both teams feature potent offensive attacks in what should be a scorer’s nightmare.
