2010 Southern Division Playoff Preview
The Southern Division playoffs are set to begin with two best-of-three semifinal series starting on Sunday, July 18th. Division champion Kelly Insurance (10-4) takes on Weaver Landscaping (8-6) in the first series while defending Southern Division champion Jitters (10-4) meets Ram’s Head Bar & Grill (8-6) in the other semifinal.

The name of the game for Kelly Insurance is defense, defense, defense. The Kelly defense allowed the fewest total runs per game (5.1 rpg) of any team in any division during the 2010 season. Kelly also sports the third highest scoring offense in the Southern Division. Pitcher Vern Ingram leads his team into the playoffs for another shot at the title. Weaver Landscaping won the Southern Division two years ago and is ready to make a run again this year. After dropping their first three games, Weaver went 7-1 in the middle of the season to propel them into the playoffs. Robert "Chief" Nielsen leads the offense for Weaver, going 31-for-49 with 26 runs and 10 doubles this season. The teams split in the regular season with each team winning their home game.

Jitters raced out to a 5-0 start to the season and ended the season with a flourish, winning their last four games to take the #2 seed. When Jitters is on, their defense is tough, led by secret weapon Paula Eichman and middle infielders Mike Palumbo and Wayne Langdon. Ram’s Head sports the Southern Divison’s most potent offense, scoring 12.6 runs per game in a very defensive division. Mike Dieter (26-for-36, 23 runs, 22 RBIs) and Chris Warner (26-for-36, 22 runs, 33 RBIs, 9 homers) lead the offense for Ram’s Head. The two teams split during the regular season, both teams winning on the road. The series may come down to a pitching duel between Eichman and Jeanie Nelson.
