AppNet Solutions completed a championship sweep over National Bank of Malvern with a come-from-behind 15-14 victory. Lisa Kunkel finished off her perfect playoffs with a 7-0 record on the mound. National Bank jumped out to an 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning but AppNet came right back with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 3-3. After shutting out NBM in the top of the 2nd, AppNet scored 3 more in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 lead. The Bank proved resilient scoring 6 runs in the top of the third to take a 9-6 lead. NBM would have had more runs if not for a great, heads up play by Mike Monteleone throwing out a runner at 2nd base from left field to end the inning. AppNet scored 2 more in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a clutch two out RBI single by Lisa Kunkel to make it 9-8 in favor of The Bank. NBM managed to manufacture a run in the top of the 4th for a 10-8 lead. In the top of the 5th, the Bank scored another run to make it 11-8. AppNet tied the game in the bottom of the 5th inning but NBM wouldn’t go down quietly, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning to take a 14-11 lead. AppNet scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game at 14 thanks to a double by Glenn Fernandes and triple by Sean Calhoon. After holding The Bank scoreless in the top of the seventh, Ben Lowther hit a one out single to start the AppNet rally, Melissa Jordan followed with a seeing-eye single that moved Lowther to third base. After a walk to Kevin Thomas to lead the bases, Sean Brennan dropped a single over the outstretched arms of the shortstop for the GWRBI. Lowther (3-for-4 with 2 runs, a double, an RBI), Fernandes (4-for-4 with 3 runs, 2 doubles and an RBI), Calhoon (3-for-3 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, a triple and a walk), Patrick Hoffman (4-for-4 with 3 runs, an RBI), Mark Zolty (3-for-3 with a run, RBI), Brennan (3-for-5 with a run, 2 RBIs and a double) and Darla Cederberg (1-for-3 with a run, RBI) led the offense. Kunkel picked up 5 assists from the mound on the night, striking out 3 NBM batters in big situations.
For NBM, Pat Hansell unloaded a 3 run homer among his 2 hits and a sacrifice fly, Jim Wylie continued his hot pace with 4 hits including a triple and 4 RBIs, Joe Moia drove in 2 runs and scored 3 times on 3 hits, Chad Smith knocked in a run on 3 hits including a double while Scott DiNolfi drove in 3 on a pair of hits. NBM finished the season with a 19-5 overall record.
